Two ways to save

Folder watching, or Claude-triggered save points.

With Claude Cowork you get a choice the other tools don't: let CoworkRestore watch the folder, or let Claude itself bracket every task with a save point.
  • Watch the folder

CoworkRestore saves a version whenever file changes settle. No extension, nothing to configure - the same general-purpose mode that also protects folders used by ChatGPT Work and other tools.

    • No extension required
    • Captures every settled change
    • Works even when Claude isn't involved
  • Let Claude trigger it

Install the small Claude integration and Claude pings CoworkRestore before and after each task - giving you the cleanest possible save points bracketing every change, tagged so you can tell what made them.

    • A save point before each task
    • Another when the task finishes
    • Clear before/after comparison
What you can do

Review first. Restore exactly what you want.

Open the timeline and see every file Claude Cowork added, changed, or deleted - before you touch anything. Then choose how much to take back.

  • Per-file restore - bring back one file and keep the good edits around it.
  • Whole-folder rollback - rewind the entire folder to a point in time.
  • Undo restore - every restore takes a safety snapshot first, so it's reversible too.
  • View a file as it was - compare the previous version against the current one before deciding.
Setup

Five minutes, then forget it’s there.

  1. 1
    Install CoworkRestore
Download for Mac, drag it to Applications, and open it from the menu bar. macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon.
  2. 2
Add the folder Claude Cowork works in
Point CoworkRestore at your project folder - a dedicated working folder is best.
  3. 3
    Pick a mode
Choose automatic folder watching, or let CoworkRestore install its small Claude integration so Claude brackets each task with a save point. You can change your mind later.
  4. 4
Store snapshots outside the project when practical
Keeping saved versions outside the folder means they survive even if the folder is deleted or moved.
  5. 5
Run a task and check the timeline
Give Claude Cowork a small task, then open CoworkRestore to see the save points bracketing it. Once you trust it, use it for real work.
In practice

The moments this is for.

  • A rewrite went too far

Claude Cowork improved a report but rewrote a section that had to stay. Restore that one file; keep the rest of the edits.

  • A cleanup moved the wrong things

A Desktop or folder cleanup renamed and regrouped files the wrong way. Roll the folder back to the moment before the cleanup.

  • An unattended task surprised you

A task ran while you were away. Open the timeline, review everything it touched, and reverse only what you didn't want.

Honest limits

What it can’t do.

The same rules apply as with any tool: CoworkRestore protects what it captures, and nothing before that.
  • Mac only - macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon.
  • No retroactive recovery - it can only restore changes captured after you added the folder.
  • Not a backup - keep Time Machine and your regular backup for everything else.
  • Local-only - snapshots stay on your Mac; there's no cloud sync in this version.

Questions about Claude Cowork protection

Does Claude need to know about CoworkRestore?
Not necessarily. CoworkRestore runs fine on its own with folder watching. If you install its small Claude integration, Claude can ping it before and after each task for the cleanest save points - but you never have to mention CoworkRestore in your prompts either way.
What's the difference between folder watching and the Claude integration?
Folder watching saves a version whenever file changes settle and needs no extension - it's the general-purpose mode. The Claude integration adds a small extension CoworkRestore installs into Claude, so Claude can trigger a save point before a task starts and another when it finishes - clearer brackets around every change.
Can I undo a restore if it wasn't what I wanted?
Yes. Every whole-folder restore takes a safety snapshot first, so 'Undo restore' is one click away until the next snapshot lands on top.
Does it work with Claude Code too?
You can point CoworkRestore at any folder, so it works alongside Claude Code. That said, Claude Code users often already have version control and checkpoints they're comfortable with - CoworkRestore is aimed at people who don't.
Where do the saved versions live, and is anything sent to the cloud?
Everything stays on your Mac, in a folder you choose. CoworkRestore is local-only: no cloud sync and no account. Snapshots can live outside the project folder so a folder delete can't take them with it.
Can it recover files Claude Cowork deleted before I installed it?
No. CoworkRestore can only restore changes it captured. It cannot recover anything from before it was installed or before you added the folder.

Add automatic save points to Claude Cowork.

One folder, one mode, and every captured change stays reviewable and reversible.
